And finally…

Despite the fact that most of the making of the book was completed by our 8 August deadline, summer holidays, work commitments and my own procrastination meant that the book remained without its covers (until now). After eventually sourcing the wood from a model shop, I became rather phazed by the idea of cutting it, I also became unconvinced by the artwork that I’d produced for the rubber stamp. Eventually however I realised that doing nothing was not an option(!), so the rubber stamp was made and a dummy of the covers tried and tested using card.

The nature of the sewn concertina means that it is very forgiving in terms of folding; the wooden covers give the structure the sturdiness it requires, and at the same time makes handling and reading the book an easier experience as the pages now feel more contained.
