Doing things Differently

Having decided the theme of the next project – the kitchen – we made an initial decision to measure our respective kitchen tables as a system to generate the book format, however rather than developing initial ideas, our weekly FaceTime meeting offered the opportunity to reflect and discuss the range of processes we have employed across previous book works. Through an ongoing dialogue we were able to formulate a proposed system of working which, whilst drawing on previous experiences, will offer the potential to explore new methodologies. The following strategies were agreed:

A 12pp book, 174 x 210 mm

Seven ‘artworks’ required, comprising x2 single pages, x5 double page spreads

Each person will produce a ‘dummy’ to explore individual ideas and techniques based on their particular kitchen topic

The dummies will be exchanged and subsequently ‘responded to’ by the other person – this could comprise a direct copy of their original work being overprinted, or an adaptation which considers the layout and placement of the received work
